The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix program is a developmental junior golf program for girls ages 5-18, was formed to create a network for girls to learn to play golf, build friendships and sample competition in a positive and supportive learning environment. The only national initiative of its kinds just for girls, the program provides the opportunity to achieve success, progress in golf and establish a life-long interest in the game. LPGA-USGA Girls Golf addresses the need for a positive, introductory golf experience and directs much of its focus on social competition. Girls ease into the game and learn how to compete at any skill level. Social competition becomes a bridge between exposing girls to golf and having them play in a serious competitive event by allowing the opportunity to develop friendships while learning how to ‘play’ the game in a tournament setting. Three factors that distinguish LPGA-USGA Girls Golf from other junior golf programs are: The multi-levels of play for varied abilities, the concept of creating a network for girls, and themed golf events. The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix programs focuses on tournament play in a social environment which encompasses the family unit. Most events are spectator events allowing family members to follow the player on course, support the player’s efforts and encouraging their progress in the game. Events include the popular Mother-Daughter, Father-Daughter and the Sweetheart parent-child event on Valentine’s Day. Other formats include a mixed division scramble night glow-ball event, team better ball events and events paired with the JGAA Boy’s Club. Funding for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix program is dependant on individual donations and financially supported in part by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix program is seeking additional contributions for operating costs and programs while striving for long-term financial stability. These additional funds will be placed in critical areas of operation to meet the current needs and growing interest in girls junior golf. The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix director, Kathy Knadler, is a current class A LPGA T & CP member with over 20 years teaching experience and membership in the LPGA and PGA of America. Kathy is a former junior and collegiate golfer and advocate of the lifelong benefits and opportunities for girls in the sport. |
