COLD STONE OPEN SPECIAL EVENT
(April 13, 2010)
2010 Cold Stone Open

The Junior Golf Association of Arizona (“JGAA”) is proud to welcome Cold Stone Creamery as the sponsor of the 2010 Cold Stone Open held at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The tournament takes place on June 3rd and will include 128 junior golfers competing in a stroke play event within several divisions. In addition, the event will feature putting, chipping and closest to the hole skills challenges and a Junior Demo Day sponsored by Callaway Golf. Volunteer assistance, lunch, tee prizes, awards, refreshments and special giveaways will be generously donated by the Cold Stone Creamery.

The JGAA is a 501(c) (3) corporation, a charity and relies on fund-raising activities and donations from corporations, clubs and individuals. The mission of the JGAA is to serve as the umbrella organization for providing, fostering and supporting comprehensive golf programs for youth in Arizona. Within the Junior Golf Association, two developmental golf programs exist, the JGAA Boy’s Club and LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix.

The JGAA Boys Golf Club is a developmental golf tournament program open to boys ages 5-14. The Boy’s Club Program started in 1999 and was intended to develop young golfers, teach the fundamentals of the game, familiarize players with The Rules of Golf, compete in a fun environment and build life-long relationships. The program caters to boys from 5 to 14 looking to develop their golf skills. The Boys Golf Club is designed to encourage participants to have fun, learn basic fundamentals of the game and provide an opportunity to advance and grow by playing from appropriate yardages for each skill level. The Boys Club Program is a resounding success by all accounts as more than 1,000 junior golfers have participated in the program. Currently, 50-65 boys play in one of the 20 tournaments held during the year. Eventually, most of these boys move into the JGAA tournament structure and many statewide and national events

The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix program is a developmental junior golf program designed for girls ages 5-18 which was started in 1990. LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix is a part of the national LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program, which is the largest developmental golf program in the nation exclusively for girls.
It is organized and implemented through a partnership between the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and the United States Golf Association (USGA). The Phoenix program is considered the pilot program for all 200+ programs and hosts the largest number of members. It was formed specifically to create a network for girls to learn to play golf, build friendships and compete in a non-threatening environment. The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program is very successful with more than 3500 girls junior golfers having participated in the program. Currently, 50-75 girls play in each of the 20 tournaments held during the year.

In an effort to foster camaraderie and build friendships between the boys and girls, each year, the Boys Club and the LPGA-USGA play at least one event together at the same location. For these two organizations, it is the event of the year. It is only fitting that this important event is sponsored by Cold Stone Creamery, a marquee corporate sponsor that is so well respected within the community.

The Cold Stone Open will also be the determinative site of the Troon Cup. The excitement of the most prestigious event on both the Boy’s Club and LPGA-USGA schedules with the added excitement of the first inaugural Troon Cup are sure to deliver a Love-It sized helping of excitement!
